When Micaela & Josh vowed to love each other “for better or for worse, in sickness and in health,” they meant it! From difficult health issues, to finding a house in our current housing market, to significant flood damage in their home state of Vermont, they’ve had to overcome many hurdles leading up to their wedding!
In fact, the hurdles began early on for Micaela & Josh back at Clarkson University. They were dorm-mates, in fact, they even shared a wall! When Micaela saw Josh, it was pretty much love at first sight. The only problem was that she was dating someone else. And Josh, well, he doesn’t even remember that first meeting. So, it took him a bit to realize he was going to spend forever with her.
It was a beautiful sun-kissed day in August. In fact, it was one of the only sunny Saturdays of the summer. We met at the Gunstock Inn & Suites looking out at a crystal-clear view of Lake Winnipesaukee surrounded by mountains. The smell of hair spray and baby’s breath filled the room as anticipation mounted for Micaela & Josh’s wedding at Timber Hill Farm later that afternoon. The morning hadn’t gone exactly to plan, but nothing was going to get in the way of Micaela & Josh’s perfect wedding day.
When you really love someone, you want to spend every second of your day with them! That’s why Micaela & Josh decided to have an intimate first look under a sprawling tree, looking out on the serene views. Taking a moment to themselves, they poured out their hearts to each other by sharing private vows! Miraculously, Micaela’s makeup survived!
During their engagement session in Portsmouth, Micaela shared with us how getting married at Timber Hill Farm had been a dream of her’s since she was a little girl. The team Jen, Isaac, and Sage do a spectacular job serving the couple and their guests. Getting to work with them again was like reuniting the dream team!
One of my favorite moments of the reception was their first dance. They even made a nod to their favorite photographer by doing the “notebook lift” that we had taught them at their engagement session. You’ll definitely want to scroll down to find that photo!
Keep an eye out for the fingerprints of the mother of the bride in the reception details. She put her crafting skills to great use pulling together all the bouquets & boutonnieres, doing calligraphy on all the signs & seating chart, decorating the cake, and even making Micaela’s veil! Talk about a labor of love!
During the best man & maid of honor speeches, Josh’s brother and Micaela’s childhood best friend shared some sweet sentiments that brought on the perfect combination of tears and laughter. Apparently, Josh made a habit of hanging out in a hulk costume and bathrobe as a child (maybe that’s why he loves the lift photos!). Micaela was a bit of a tough cookie in her early years. In fact, I believe her maid of honor said her barbies were known to become a bit feral. Maybe it’s best that Josh & Micaela didn’t meet until college after all.
Micaela & Josh, Thank you! Thank you for including us in your story.
You both navigated your day with joy, maturity, and grace. You struck the perfect balance of knowing how best to celebrate your own relationship and making your guests felt special & loved. I mean, someone told me you even organized the reception playlist to include everyone’s favorite songs!
Kaelyn and I truly loved every moment with you both! We would shoot a million weddings & engagement sessions of the two of you… or just walk around downtown Portsmouth together again! :) We are praying for God’s blessing on your marriage and for many, many years of married bliss!
From “sharing a wall” to now sharing a life, look at how far you’ve come! And yet, the best… is yet to be!
